Renmin University of China Founded in 1950, the Department of law is the first formal higher legal education institution established after the birth of new China. It is known as the "working machine" and "the cradle of jurists" in China's legal education. It has become an important town to lead legal education, a platform for gathering domestic excellent legal talents and a window for communication between Chinese and foreign legal exchanges. In 1998, the Law School of the National People's Congress was the first to be awarded the "National May Day Labor Award" in the national university system.

The law school has formed a complete talent training system. It is one of the first batch of units approved to have the right to confer doctor's degree in the first level discipline of law in China. The doctoral and master's programs cover all secondary disciplines. It has 1 national key first level discipline (including all secondary disciplines) (Law) and 4 national key second level disciplines. With the approval of the State Council, China's first law postdoctoral mobile station (including all doctoral disciplines) has been established. It has one undergraduate major (Law), one second bachelor's degree (intellectual property), and one master's degree of law. Since 1950, the college has graduated more than 20000 students and cultivated more than 300000 trainees, advanced students, judges, prosecutors, lawyers, university teachers and civil servants of state organs. A large number of graduates have become outstanding talents in the construction of the rule of law in the Republic of China. At present, there are more than 3000 registered students, with graduate students as the main body, and undergraduate students account for about one fifth.
The law school has a strong faculty with a well-structured teaching staff, including a group of senior jurists with high reputation at home and abroad, and a large number of young and middle-aged jurists with influence in the legal circles and related disciplines in China. Nine professors have given lectures on legal system for the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress for 13 times.
